Though he was cleared to return, he will not play again this afternoon

Buffalo Bills defensive tackle Ed Oliver was injured on the first play from scrimmage in Buffalo’s first preaseson game of the 2024 season.

Oliver, who is in his sixth season as a Bill, was slow to get up off the turf at Orchard Park after a tackle on Chicago Bears’ D’Andre Swift. Oliver was seen leaving the field with trainers and, after a brief moment on the sideline, headed to the blue medical tent.

Oliver was later seen out of the tent, but sitting on the bench while the Bears continued to move methodically downfield and into the red zone. It looked as though the time on the bench may have given Oliver the time he needed to recouperate as he was seen putting his helmet back on; howeer, Chicago was forced to kick a field goal before the Bills’ 2023 sacks leader could get back on the field.

Afer the Buffalo offense failed to gain a first down, and punter Sam Martin booted a punt that was downed inside the 5 yard line, the Bills announced that Oliver was cleared to return with what is being classified as a knee injury.

Despite the announcement, Oliver remained on the sideline as the Buffalo second team defense took the field for Chicago’s next possession.
