Veteran defensive tackle Ed Oliver is embracing a larger leadership role

The Buffalo Bills were back on the St. John Fisher University practice fields Sunday for Day 9 of training camp. Today’s edition of Buffalo Rumblinks leads off with thoughts and observations from Buffalo’s ninth session, including quarterback Josh Allen connecting with rookie wide receiver Keon Coleman on perhaps the most impressive catch of training camp, and injuries are becoming a concern for head coach Sean McDermott.

Thoughts from Day 9 of Bills training camp

One of the biggest positives to emerge from training camp was on full display Sunday, as Josh Allen and Keon Coleman continue to connect on impressive plays during practice. What else stood out from Sunday’s session? Allen and the offense got back on track following an inconsistent performance during the Return of the Blue and Red scrimmage; safety Taylor Rapp continues to show he belongs with Buffalo’s first-team defense; and defensive tackle Ed Oliver, edge rusher Von Miller and the defensive line enjoyed another outstanding practice at camp.

Plus, head coach Sean McDermott admits the mounting injuries are becoming a concern as the team saw nine players sit out — safeties Mike Edwards (hamstring) and Cole Bishop (shoulder) are week-to-week; while wide receiver Chase Claypool (toe), running back Ty Johnson (hamstring), offensive linemen La’el Collins (knee) and Travis Clayton (shoulder) and linebackers Eddie Ulofoshio (rib) and Nicholas Morrow (core muscle) are day-to-day. Tight end Dawson Knox was also sidelined with a groin injury/veteran rest day.
