However, HC Sean McDermott said “then, we will take it from there” following Saturday
Not only does Bills Mafia get to see quarterback Josh Allen and the rest of the Buffalo Bills starters play at least a quarter in Saturday’s preseason opener against the Chicago Bears. But they also get a taste of what the defense will look like with new Bills defensive coordinator Bobby Babich calling the plays.

Head coach Sean McDermott, however, did say “he would take it from there” following Saturday’s game, hinting that Babich might not be the one calling the defense once the regular season comes around.

Nonetheless, this is progress. After calling the defense on top of the usual head coach responsibilities for all of the 2023-24 season, this feels like a breath of fresh air. And who knows? Maybe Babich impresses McDermott enough that he gets the nod for other opportunities in the future.
Another thing worth noting is that Babich did mention in Monday’s press conference that he plans to sit in the coaching box this season, which certainly offers some insight into who will be handling the defensive play-calling.
Babich: I’ve made the decision to be up in the coach’s box this season.

When asked why he made that decision Babich said, “Have you seen me on the sideline? Pretty easy decision.”#Bills
