Chris Brown takes over play-by-play duties for the Bills and Audacy following John Murphy’s retirement
The Buffalo Bills and Audacy have named Chris Brown as the new “Voice of the Bills” on the heels of John Murphy’s retirement from play-by-play duties. Brown had been filling in on an interim basis for Murphy since January of 2023, while Murphy began his recovery from a stroke suffered the weekend prior to Buffalo’s 2022 NFL season Monday Night Football game at the Cincinnati Bengals.
Brown, who now takes the reigns on a full-time basis, brings a wealth of experience and ability to the position. With over a season behind the Bills’ broadcast booth mic now under his belt following the 2023 NFL season, Brown is ready to hit the ground running as he looks to continue the legacy of Bills play-by-play callers while putting his own spin on things.

Brown is a long-tenured reporter for the Buffalo Bills, covering the team since 2006. His current appointments also include co-hosting One Bills Live alongside Steve Tasker, which airs on WGR550 AM Monday through Friday from 1 p.m. ET to 3 p.m. ET.
You may very well recall Chris Brown’s first at-home Bills play-by-play call, when Buffalo hosted the New England Patriots a week after the Bengals game where safety Damar Hamlin suffered an on-field cardiac arrest. The results of that game were ultimately wiped from the record books, as both teams decided the outcome was insignificant.
All of Bills Mafia, the entire organization, the NFL, and much of the world were tuned in to see how Buffalo responded to unprecedented on-field adversity. Running back Nyheim Hines decided to set the tone from the start, and Brown responded in kind.

Brown’s enthusiastic approach to covering the Bills and his confident, witty on-mic persona no doubt helped in his new appointment as the team’s full-time game-day play-by-play voice. In succeeding Murphy, Brown becomes just the third full-time play-by-play caller. The role was most famously covered first by the late Van Miller beginning in 1960, until his retirement at the end of the 2003 regular season.
Join with us as we congratulate Brownie on his historic full-time appointment!
