Keon Coleman has signed his first NFL contract with the Buffalo Bills, and we have the details
On Wednesday, it was reported that Keon Coleman had signed his rookie four-year contract to play for the Buffalo Bills. What we weren’t certain of at that time were the specific numbers involved, even if we could make an educated guess based on players drafted at or around Coleman’s selection.
As the Bills’ top pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, Coleman landed with Buffalo at pick 33 — the top selection of Round 2, and the first name called on Day 2. The front office worked the phone lines to trade back twice in a bid to land both Coleman and a third-round pick that weekend.
Given that Coleman was selected outside the first round as the Bills’ top pick, his contract doesn’t resemble the 32 players selected ahead of him. The one key difference is that Buffalo does not have a fifth-year option clause to exercise down the road, which is attached to all players drafted in the first round.
However, the fifth-year option isn’t perfect for every player, nor is it with certain key positions. Chief among those positions where exercising the fifth-year option is appealing are with quarterbacks and wide receivers. Drafting Coleman in Round 2 essentially speeds up the evaluation process, and if things go well the Bills could look to get something done after year three.
But for now, Keon Coleman has done well for himself, signing a deal that will pay him $10,074,258 over four years, with an average annual salary of $2,518,565, and a signing bonus of $4,146,732. Coleman’s contract details were made available by Spotrac, and shared succinctly in the tweet below from Built In Buffalo.

Keon Coleman’s 2024 cap hit lands at $1,831683, while the 2024 cash paid to him comes in at $4,941,732. If we consider just Coleman’s signing bonus of $4,146,732, he now has the ability to purchase 51,834 $80 jackets from Macy’s. All Coleman needs at this point is an endorsement deal with department store chain.
