The Pro Bowl center spent four years with Buffalo

Former Buffalo Bills center Mitch Morse, who spent the 2024 season with the Jacksonville Jaguars, announced his retirement on Thursday, March 6. The veteran and 2022 Pro Bowler turns 33 years old in April.

Morse entered the NFL as a second-round draft choice of the Kansas City Chiefs, going No. 49 overall in the 2015 NFL Draft. He spent his first four pro seasons with Kansas City, departing after their loss to the New England Patriots in the 2018 AFC Championship Game. That off-season, Morse signed a four-year deal with Buffalo worth a total of $44.5 million.

Thus began a great partnership between Morse and quarterback Josh Allen. As Allen grew as a passer and a football player overall, Morse was the man directly in front of him, the Kent Hull to Allen’s Jim Kelly. The two expressed a great deal of admiration for each other over the years, as Morse clearly helped in Allen’s development from a young, inexperienced player to one who could read and diagnose defenses efficiently.

Morse played in 77 games with the Bills, starting all 77 of his regular-season appearances. He also started 10 playoff games in Buffalo’s red, royal, and white. He was released for salary cap reasons prior to the start of the 2024 season and subsequently signed a two-year, $10.5 million contract with the Jaguars.

Morse has a well-documented history of concussions, having officially suffered six concussions through the 2022 season. While he did not miss a game in 2023 or in 2024, he was evaluated for another head injury this past November while with Jacksonville.

Morse and his wife, Caitlin, have two young children. While in Western New York, they were incredible assets to the community, and we wish them nothing but the best as Mitch begins the next chapter of his life.

It was a great 10-year career, No. 60. Thank you for all you did for the Buffalo Bills!
