The Buffalo Bills and Josh Allen found rare struggles during their Week 4 loss to the Baltimore Ravens

In the Buffalo Bills’ Week 4 loss to the Baltimore Ravens, quarterback Josh Allen failed to score a touchdown of any kind. It’s a situation QB17 has seldom found himself in — notably the first time since 2021, and only the third regular-season game he’s been held scoreless since entering the NFL in 2018.

Most Bills fans are ready to turn the page on Week 4, willing to agree it was a ghastly evening. Truth be told, Sunday night’s game was perhaps one befitting of the company found within Edgar Allen Poe’s short story “The Tell-Tale Heart.” Yet for Josh Allen and the Bills, they’re apt to shout at these Ravens: “Nevermore!” — should they meet again in the postseason.

During his career, Josh Allen has more games throwing for four touchdowns (11), and games with four touchdowns of any variety (18) than he does games without a single score. As such, you can be certain that Allen will tear at the floorboards to find opportunity lost against Baltimore.

Frustratingly, Allen and the Bills failed to build enough rhythm against the Ravens as he finished a paltry 16-of-29 for 180 yards, adding five rushes for 21 yards in Baltimore. After starting the season well, Buffalo’s offensive line struggled to give Allen enough time and failed to keep his jersey clean. In fact, Allen faced so much pressure that he was taken out of the game in the fourth quarter before he could find the end zone with his arms or legs.

As for the last regular-season game when Allen failed to record a touchdown? Though it’s another of the Bills’ most forgettable games, you might remember it well. The Buffalo Bills dropped a 6-9 snoozer on the road to the Urban Meyer-led Jacksonville Jaguars. Meyer guided the Jaguars to a 2-11 record that season, his first and only campaign with Jacksonville before being fired.

Allen was also held without a touchdown in a game against the New York Jets in 2020. Overall, Allen’s stats were decent in the 18-10 win, finishing 30-of-47 for 307 yards, with 11 rushes for 61 yards. Allen completed 31-of-47 passes for 264 yards with two interceptions, adding five rushes for 50 yards. The Jets’ defense simply held Allen out of the end zone, forcing head coach Sean McDermott to opt for six field goals from kicker Tyler Bass.
